FACILITY CLOSURES:
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
- The New York Presidential Primary Election has been delayed from April 28th to June 23rd.
- All public schools, including 3-K and pre-K programs, are closed beginning Monday, March 16th and are scheduled to reopen on Monday, April 20th.
- Grab-and-Go breakfast and lunch will be available at all public school buildings this week from 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Meals for the coming weeks will be made available soon. You can go to any school to pick up food. You do not need to visit the school your children attend. This service should be available through Wednesday, April 8th.
- New York City is piloting closing streets to vehicles and opening them to pedestrians
- Alternate side parking is closed through Tuesday, March 31.
- Department of Motor Vehicles offices are temporarily closed for in-office visits. Online transactions, including for license renewals, are available. License and permit expirations will be extended.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
- At this time, you should limit public transportation travel to ONLY WHEN NECESSARY.
- Commuting for Essential Employees: if you need to use public transportation, maintain social precautions by staying 6 feet away from others and avoiding physical contact
- General precautions:
- If you have a fever, cough, or shortness of breath, please do not use public transportation.
- Remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds after using public transportation.
- When taking the subway, if the train is too crowded, wait for the next one if you can.
- If you are a senior in need of transportation options, see Transportation for Seniors.
- If you use Access-a-Ride for transportation, you may travel with a personal care attendant or guest. Shared rides are not being scheduled.
- Changes in service as of March 30, 2020 at 4:15 pm:
- Subways
- Subway lines are operating on the MTA Essential Service Plan, preserving AM and PM peak service and reducing density for staff and riders. For up to date information on the Essential Service Plan, click here.
- B, W, and Z services are not running.
- Metrocard transactions can only be made at MetroCard vending machines. Reduced-fare cash transactions may still be made at the booths.
- Buses
- Buses are operating at 75% of normal schedule.
- There is a new rear-door boarding policy. Local and SBS buses should be boarded through the back door. Express bus customers still board through the front. Riders who need the ramp can board through the front door and use the priority seats.
- LIRR
- Half-hourly or hourly service on each line with additional trains during peak times.
- Ticket counters are closed. Cash is no longer being accepted on trains. Cash may be used at ticket vending machines. Purchases can also be made using the MTA eTix app.
- Metro-North
- Modified schedules on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines, including weekends, begin April 4.
